What we offer:
"Tool Time!" Sculpture, Carving , Framing Tuesdays January 14 - March 18 Ages 8-12 4:30pm - 5:30pm 10 weeks In this class, students will explore how artists use and combine materials using specific tools with wood, paper based mediums, clay, and additional materials. We will draw inspiration from Modern and Contemporary artists who work in multimedia, and use a cacophony of materials to create unique and sometimes pretty weird sculptures, but ALSO learn some practical basic wood construction tech! We will use Limewood blocks and kid-safe whittling knives to carve (subtractive) sculpture, bas relief tile making, and learn about making frames with mitre cuts and basic joinery. This class will have a workshop vibe: we'll use different hand tools like saws, hand drills, hammers, screwdrivers, clamps, vices, pliers, wire cutters, cardboard cutters, hot glue, and materials like wood, plaster, clay, wire, foam, metal foils, found objects, cardboard, stone, ceramic, Papier-mâché, and Super Sculpey. Of course, we'll practice safety first when working, but also have a lot of fun in the process! Young students can expect to learn a bit about the physical properties of combining materials together, how to use certain tools, some basic methods of woodworking and fastening, casting plaster in moulds, and clay carving. Class is capped at 6 participants for safety. Taught by Branden
