Greek Vessel Storytelling Feb 19 - March 19 (ages 8-12) 4:30pm -5:30pm 5 classes Do you know the story of Hercules? The tale of Perseus and Medusa? Or Odysseus's heroic journey? Long ago these stories and many others were told through the medium of clay. Students can create their own Percy Jackson-style saga while coil building a traditional Greek vessel. These stories will wrap around the vessel, similar to a comic strip or ancient hieroglyphics. We will utilize a technique called sgraffito (Italian for “scratch”), in conjunction with underglazes and glaze to illustrate a mythology of our own. Students can expect to make one 12" clay vessel which will take three classes to construct. Week 4 will be a brainstorming / drawing class to design our story, Week 5 will be a glazing day. All work will be made with fireable white earthenware clay. This class has a materials and kiln fee worked into the cost. Taught by Taylor Mezo
