What we offer:

Copy Cats II: Painting from Painting January - 16 - March 27 7pm - 8:45pm 10 Sessions This class is intended for folks who have taken our "Copy Cats I" class. It will dive a bit deeper into more challenging paintings. But if you have a bit of prior experience with painting and are a self-starter, you'll be all good! This fun and intensive 10-session class will welcome all skill levels to explore several different painting mediums, review technical application, practice different painting styles, and improve upon an understanding of art history. One of the best ways to learn an artistic skill is to physically copy an artwork. In many ways, it's basically what artists go to art school for: copying elicits learning a language. In this course, we will learn by copying several paintings from different phases of Art History. We will cover a lot of painterly-territory, and learn about how to create a variety of effects and 'moves' in picture making through the lens of several artists' work. Our instructor will offer a mix of technical demonstrations and playful low-pressure projects in a casual atmosphere designed to help you achieve certain painterly applications and strengthen your familiarity and skill with painting. Instructor will introduce a bit of Art History per each class. No prior experience necessary! Some paintings may take two or more sessions to finish. Some students may work faster or slower, and we will accommodate. The paintings we make will be scaled-down versions or zoomed-in crops of well-known artist's work, keeping the original painting's proportions, as we work from reproductions using different strategies to achieve a likeness. Students will be able to choose from several options of an artist's work to copy. This course will work with Acrylic Paint and Water Soluble Oil Paint mediums Our Spring 2025 "Copy-Catting II" schedule will be as follows (subject to change): 1: Fauvism 2: CoBrA 3: Post Impressionism 4: Cubism (with collage) 5: Impressionism 6: Art Nouveau / Art Deco 7: Surrealism 8 : Pop The cost of this course includes a materials fee which covers all painting surfaces, paint mediums, and equipment. Please bring your own smock or wear 'painting clothes' * This class will run with a minimum of 8 registrations. Taught by Branden Koch
