What we offer:
Coil Building Historical Style Vessels Adults 18+ Wednesdays Feb 19 - Mar 19 6:30pm-8pm 5 classes This class will be structured in 4 work days, 1 glaze day. Participants will push the boundaries of the historical vessel form, creating a version of traditional Greek krater vessel . We will design shaped templates to use as we construct the vessel form with coil building techniques. We'll look at surface design that tells stories that wrap around the vessel, and utilize a technique called sgraffito (Italian for “scratch”), in conjunction with underglazes and glaze to illustrate a mythology of our own. Our instructor will help you begin with some basic models of hand-build clay construction, and you'll be able to re-invent form and surface design from there. We'll look at historical approaches to various forms for inspiration! 5 classes total - includes the following materials: - All glazes, slip, clay tools, clay equipment, and storage. - Standard #105 White Clay. - If a student needs more clay to work on additional projects, they can buy clay from us at $1.50/Lb, but the initial 25 lbs. should cover all of the main projects made in this class. - This class will fire approximately 1 kiln (also included). * Just a few notes on our Clay Programming: - We are not able to reconstitute clay in our studio. Students purchasing extra clay from us beyond the allotted 25 lb. amount, can do so at cost ($1.50 per pound...clay comes in 25Lb bags). * Registration is paid in-full for your spot in this class. We cannot prorate registration fees for missed classes.
